Why is the ocean blue?

Believe it or not, no one is really sure why the ocean is blue! As you may know, sunlight, or “white” light, is actually made up of all the colors of the rainbow. Since ocean water doesn’t absorb blue light, that light is reflected outwards when sunlight hits it. So the ocean looks blue. Another theory is that suspended matter in the water, like silt or algae, turns it blue.
